Electric Arc Furnace (EAF)

Overview

This is M-tier(advanced subclass) machine!

The first and currently one alloying equipment in CL which uses current to heat and eventually melt conductive materials.

The primary use is to recycle scraps or to make alloys, but it is not as efficient for alloys due to enormous power consumption and associated dangers.

Production Rates

As in real world it supplies energy(joules) per unit of time(watts).

P=(V^2)/R, where

  • P is applied energy in watts
  • V is voltage(currently 900)
  • R is upper layer feedstock resistance

Production rates are calculated by target heat and speed of heating using applied energy.

The more matter it contains the more energy it can accumulate. Different elements and compound have different values of Cp, but it is assumed one item is 1/9 of 1 standard minecraft volume(1m^3).

J=C*V, where

  • J is required energy in joules per 1 kelvin
  • C is heat capacity of a material
  • V is the volume of material in minecraft volumes(blocks)

To calculate heat capacity of mixture(alloy) sum them up.

That way it goes to:

T=J/P*Mtf, where

  • T is required time
  • Mtf is Minecraft Time Frame(1/(20+\-100))

Feedstock

Currently supported:

  • Iron Scraps

Hazards

Power Network Exhaustion

EAF can easily drain all the power from network if left unattended. It might be dangerous if your entire power grid is not isolated.

Overheating

Overheating might results in destruction of arc furnace internal lining and containment vessel leading to a disastrous spillage and structural collapse.

Miscomposition

It is generally a bad idea to perform chemical reactions in Arc Furnace vessel
